What is Anti Aging?

Anti-Aging

The face is our business card - the first thing other people see about us. Therefore, it is of course especially important to radiate freshness and friendliness. But in the course of our lives, the normal ageing process leaves its mark on our face and often makes our complexion look sallow and tired. But this doesn't have to be the case - if you know how, anti-ageing can help to push back the natural ageing of the skin a good deal. Anti-aging presses the pause button, so to speak, if you play by all the rules.

The right anti-ageing facial care and a good lifestyle can help to prevent the first wrinkles and thus preserve the youthful appearance of the skin for as long as possible. In order to achieve an optimal result, it is important to know how the skin ages in the first place and what needs it develops over time. This is because the ageing process is caused by a multitude of factors.

Anti aging includes all measures that can contribute to slowing down the biological process of aging. Many people feel younger than they are, so it is obvious that you also want to adapt your appearance to this attitude to life. An all-round carefree package in the field of anti-aging includes a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise, a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Nutrition, as little stress as possible and high-quality skin care!

How is our skin structured?

Our skin essentially consists of three layers that have very different properties and therefore also show individual signs of ageing.

The epidermis

This is the name given to the top layer of skin. It renews itself permanently in a cycle of about six weeks, as new skin cells migrate to the surface, which are then in turn shed in the form of skin flakes. Over the years, however, this process slows down - cell metabolism and lipid function slowly decline. This means that the skin becomes drier and rougher, resulting in the first fine lines that gradually develop into wrinkles.

The dermis

This is the middle layer of skin. It makes up about 90% of the thickness of our skin. It contains primarily collagen and elastin fibres, which are responsible for giving the skin elasticity and tone. With age, the amount of collagen and elastin decreases. The body's own production of hyaluronic acid also decreases, which means that less moisture is stored in the dermis. Blood circulation to the skin deteriorates and it loses its youthfulness. It becomes thinner and more prone to wrinkles.

The subcutis

The lowest layer of skin consists mainly of connective tissue and fat. This connects the skin with the muscles underneath. Due to the natural ageing process, the fatty tissue decreases. This causes the much-hated cellulite, but also wrinkles in the face. The skin as a whole becomes flabbier.

The great influence of the exposome on our skin!

Have you ever heard of the term exposome? It is a very important element in the field of anti-aging! Besides genetic predisposition, there are a number of internal and external factors that can negatively influence the youthful appearance of the skin. They are behavioural, environmental or hormonal. The totality of all those non-genetic factors is called the exposome. The interaction of the exposome factors leads to an increased sensitivity of the skin and thus accelerates the ageing process. In this context, one also speaks of oxidative stress. This leads to the release of free radicals in the body. The result: the cells are damaged. It is commonly said that the exposome is responsible for over 80% of skin ageing.

What factors are included in the exposome?

The following exposome factors can interact to contribute to the premature ageing process of the skin:

  • UV radiation is one of the biggest factors for oxidative stress. It is a real turbo for the ageing process.
  • Air pollutionsuch as particulate matter, is also a very big stress factor for the skin.
  • Unhealthy diet with a lot of sugar and fat also has an extremely negative influence on the skin's appearance.
  • Lack of sleep and stress are a pure complexion killer.
  • Nicotine and alcohol consumption promotes the release of free radicals and thus also causes the skin to age more quickly.
  • A hormone imbalance such as one has during menopause, can also promote skin ageing.

How do age spots develop?

Anti-Aging

In addition to various types and forms of wrinkles, age spots can also be a visual problem in the ageing process. They are a special form of pigment spots and become visible as unsightly brownish discolourations on the skin. The unpopular hyperpigmentation is caused by an increased release of the skin pigment melanin and usually occurs in areas where the skin is exposed to intense UV radiation. This is why they usually appear on the face, décolleté or hands. But they can also be hormonal. An excess of oestrogens can favour hyperpigmentation. They often occur during pregnancy or when taking hormonal contraceptives. Age spots are also often caused by hormone replacement therapy during the menopause.

How can I prevent age spots?

When it comes to anti-ageing, prevention is always better than cure! Because once skin damage has occurred, it is often difficult to get it back under control. Therefore, it is very important to take preventive measures. To avoid unsightly age spots, you should avoid direct sunlight - especially at midday, you should never go outside without sunscreen, because the UV radiation is particularly intense then! A day cream with a sun protection factor should be part of your daily care anyway. Visits to the solarium should be completely taboo. They are a real turbo booster for age spots and wrinkles.

How can I treat existing age spots?

The good news is: from a medical point of view, age spots are usually completely harmless. However, if they are an aesthetic problem, they can be removed by laser treatment. There are also many cosmetic products on the market that can at least lighten age spots. A good vitamin serum can make a big difference. Otherwise, the spots can also be covered well with an extra layer of concealer.

FAQs

If you are concerned with anti-ageing, you cannot avoid the term hyaluronic acid. Why is it so important?

Hyaluron is a real miracle cure! That is why our recommendation, the Anti Aging Cream by Lavuj, also contains 80 Dalton hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is contained in the natural structure of the skin, but its production decreases with age. It has the important task of providing moisture and is therefore the secret of youthful skin.

At what age should you start using anti-aging products?

Anti-ageing creams are recommended from the mid-20s, because at this age the skin is already slowly losing moisture. But you should start using them from the age of 30 at the latest, because the first visible wrinkles start to form on the face at this age.

Which vitamins are important for anti-aging?

Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins in the fight against skin ageing, as it is involved in collagen formation in the body. In addition, vitamins A and E are very good in the fight against free radicals! Retinol is, by the way, the strongest form of vitamin A and therefore also highly recommended as an active ingredient in the field of anti-aging!
